They had the same ideas about a new architecture that was to differ radically from the established serial "concrete box" concept. They had founded an office community, had fought hard for their ideas for many years, but ultimately failed because of the merciless economic realism of the client. They had finally separated because Krechel no longer wanted to forego success in favor of utopias and Hegarth did not want to follow him on this pragmatic path. They lost sight of each other.

The will of the old friend, who obviously chose suicide, and the films that Krechel finds in his office, disturb Krechel. Some of these Super 8 films were shot together - on trips to buildings in Spain and Holland that they found exemplary, during demonstrations against architectural atrocities and clear-cut renovations. Krechel decides to erect a memorial to his friend - in the form of a film. He convinces a filmmaker friend of this idea, who in turn succeeds in winning a television broadcaster as a financier. At the same time, Krechel uses his establishedness and his good contacts to powerful clients to start a new attempt to implement at least some of the ideas that his friend Hegarth and he had at the time. And he is successful with it. In the case of a large residential project, the developers allow him not only to focus on economic maxims.

Renke Korn achieved his goal of information, education and awareness-raising via the emotional involvement of the viewer in the architect's fate of two imagined but exemplary, idealistic young men - both very convincing: Nikol Voigtländer as Hegarth, who was shattered by his uncompromising uncompromising behavior, Frank Glaubrecht as the pragmatist Krechel, who finds his way to the arduous path of small steps. At the same time, the film was a kind of salvation of honor for the much-scolded architects, who were often blamed too quickly for all building sins: They could and would like to build differently - if only you let them.
