The Boss of San Francisco is a 1973 Hong Kong action film starring Chuck Norris .

In San Francisco cop Wong Dong active helps his partner Sumner, who was kidnapped. A fight ensues in which one of the kidnappers is killed. Dong is suspended from duty and sentenced to prison. He meets the gang boss Slaughter in prison, but Dong refuses to work for Slaughter. After his release, Dong starts a campaign of revenge that leads him through police chief Newman up to the boss of the gangster organization. In the end, Slaughter is defeated by Dong.

  • Bruce Lee was supposed to play the main role , but the collaboration failed. He was replaced by Don Wong.
  • The shooting took place in San Francisco . The exploitation of the film was originally only intended for the Asian region. The film was therefore only released in US cinemas in 1981, and it opened in Germany in 1983. The rental company World Northal had u. a. bought this film and provided it with a synchronization.
  • Chuck Norris can be seen here in the role of the villain, contrary to his later films. This was his second Hong Kong film after The Death Claw Strikes Again (1972).
  • The film is available in various international versions. The original Asian version is around 17 minutes longer than the export version and deviates in 43 places.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was "more annoying than entertaining thanks to a lack of logic in the plot, unconvincing character drawings and constant fights" .
