action

After a traumatizing adventure, Morty wants to get out immediately and no longer accompany his grandfather on his adventures. However, Rick says that he would need him as his sidekick and tries to smooth things over by letting Morty plan and carry out an adventure according to his taste. They then place a wager, according to which Rick says that Morty's adventure will fail, while Morty must never complain again if the adventure actually fails. As they are about to leave, all three other members of the Smith family come up to Rick and want him to help with the simplest things. He can turn them off when he gives them a Meeseeks box that allows them to summon a clever blue humanoid helper to help with everyday problems. However, these beings only exist to solve the assigned task and then immediately disappear again. Rick admonishes his family to keep chores simple and be aware that the Meeseeks are delighted with their death, as existence means pain to them. When Rick and Morty left, the three of them all summon a Mr. Meeseeks. Beth wants to become a more complete woman, while Summer wants to improve her popularity at school. Jerry warns the two of them that they would use the boxes completely wrong and asks for the comparatively less complicated help in that he wishes to reduce his golf handicap by two strokes.

Morty has meanwhile taken Rick on an adventure into a fantasy world in which he would like to do a quest. They end up in a poor village and agree to bring the prosperity back to the village. The villagers believe that a giant living above the village would steal all the riches. Rick and Morty climb up into the giant realm and reach the giant's house, more precisely, the kitchen. The giant, Dale, enters the room and can smell the intruders. Just as he is about to start looking for them, he slips and bangs his head against the edge of the table, causing his wife to die within a few moments, to the horror of his wife. Rick and Morty are then arrested for murder.

Back on Earth, Summers Mr. Meeseeks can quickly grow in popularity after giving a fiery speech in the gym in front of the assembled school. Immediately after he has finished his task, it vanishes into thin air. Meanwhile, Beth is sitting with her Mr. Meeseeks in a restaurant, who gives her nice advice and she almost kisses him when he disappears. Jerry, on the other hand, is quite overwhelmed with his task so far, as he cannot implement Mr. Meeseeks' suggestions for improvement. When Jerry wants to give up, his helper orders another Mr. Meeseeks, as they are designed to do their job. A little later the entire living room of the Smith is overcrowded with overwhelmed Mr. Meeseeks, all of whom are desperate whether their existence is too long. Gradually they lose their minds because they cannot cope with the situation of being unable to complete a task. They get more and more frustrated when Beth is about to go out for dinner. Jerry accompanies them, despite the protests of the Mr. Meeseeks, and gives them to understand that improving his golf game would be in their hands rather than his. When they left, the Mr. Meeseeks all blame each other for their misery, after which they were only drawn in by the others. At first one of them appeals to concentrate and work together on a solution, but this wish ends in a big fight in which they always summon new Mr. Meeseeks and they try to kill each other, which is not possible. A little later the eldest Mr. Meeseeks intervenes and says there would only be one permanent solution to their problem. You'd have to kill Jerry to end the madness.

Back in the great world, Rick and Morty are now on trial for Dale's murder. However, they are quickly acquitted after a lawyer who advocates for the rights of little people informs the court that they have never been introduced to the legal system of the giant world. Rick tries to convince Morty to throw in the towel, which he refuses to accept and so they have to climb down the huge steps of the court bit by bit. A tavern is built into one of the steps, where the two of them make a stopover. There, after a brief argument about Rick's permanent negative attitude towards his adventure, Morty goes to the bathroom, where he meets Mr. Jellybean. After a short, nice chat, the latter tries to rape Morty. He can only fight it off with difficulty and is understandably traumatized as a result and now actually wants to go home. In the meantime, however, Rick has found joy in the place, taking part in karaoke, for example, and winning a lot of money playing cards. Morty then has to admit that his adventure has failed. Rick realizes what happened in the bathroom when he sees the injured Mr. Jellybean. With the money he won, he convinced his grandson to pay someone for the trip down the stairs and to distribute the profit made to the villagers.

Beth and Jerry are meanwhile sitting in a restaurant when the army of Mr. Meeseeks overrun it, heavily armed. The two of them can take refuge in the refrigerator, so the Mr. Meeseeks begin to take hostages to urge Jerry to leave the refrigerator. Jerry is on the verge of responding to it before Beth coaxes him into a good position, dictates the posture and encourages him to take a clean golf swing. He opens the door and uses a broken pipe and tomato to show that his strike has indeed improved. Then all Mr. Meeseeks disappear except for one, a very pedantic one. He really wants to see whether Jerry is also capable of putting, i.e. potting. He disappears as well as that succeeds. Because of the chaos in the restaurant, Jerry and Beth get along better again.

Back in the village, Rick and Morty hand over the money they have won to the villagers and Rick congratulates his grandson on a successful adventure. The villagers then want to introduce Rick and Morty to their king, who, to the horror of the last, is Mr. Jellybean of all people. He urges his grandfather to open a portal and they hurry home. However, after walking through the portal, Rick sticks out his hand with a laser gun and kills Mr. Jellybean, who explodes from the hit.

After the credits you can see that the villagers have built a monument to their king, with arms around a child, in his honor, before someone reveals a box in which apparently improper pictures that show the true nature of Mr. Jellybeans were found were. She is then burned to keep the memory of the king in good condition.

development

Justin Roiland, inventor and showrunner of the series, said that he got the idea for the Mr. Meeseeks when he got stuck in the writing process and thought of a helper who suddenly shows up and yells, "I'm Mr. Meeseeks, see me on!". From there, the idea kept evolving.

criticism

Zach Handlern of the AV Club said of the episode: "It has one of the strangest endings on the show yet." David Roa praised the episode for its strong story and re-viewing value.
