The curse of the black sisters (reference to the castle of the black witches ; sex orgies of the black witches ; Veil of Blood - The curse of the black sisters ; Black Night - sex orgies of the black witches ; the sister of evil ) is a Swedish-Swiss-German horror and erotic film by Joseph W. Sarno from 1973.

action

Embedded in the mountains of Germany stands a castle in which three young women, the sisters Helga and Monika and their friend Iris, pay homage to Baroness Varga, a medieval vampire, in satanic and erotic rituals. The two young women are descendants of the lesbian vampire, who in turn is a descendant of Countess Elizabeth Báthory. In order to get their inheritance, Helga and Monika are forced to spend a year at Varga Castle. Varga's soul, trapped in the bodies of her descendants, needs a woman's body so that it can accommodate her reincarnated soul. But it has to be the right one.

The mostly black clad manager Wanda, who manages the castle in spirit and body together with her satanic sisters, acts on behalf of Varga and gets the women to give in to their most secret urges.

When the siblings Peter and Julia's car breaks down near the castle, they seek help and refuge there. Julia, a young doctor who deals with the topic of superstition and mythology, quickly realizes that something evil is up to mischief in the castle. But the siblings are also drawn into the perverse goings-on. They have no idea that it is Varga's intention and desire to take revenge on the descendants of their former judges.

criticism

The Lexicon of International Films noted:

“400 years after her cremation, a young baroness is resurrected as a vampire to take revenge on the successors of her former judge. Mainly erotically oriented, confused horror film with elements of satanism, occultism and various parapsychological phenomena. "

On page 10K bullets it is said that the film is based “more on images than on dialogue”. This is only "sparse". It is true that there are “many beautiful women” in the film and “each of them” is “naked” before the film comes to an end. The story, however, is rather standard, but is enhanced by “Sarno's hypnotizing photography” and would have been at best average in the “hands of a lesser director”. Overall, however, the film is "more erotic and seductive than Jean Rollins' lesbian vampire films."

Justin Richards of blueprint: review said the film was admittedly beautifully shot, but at the same time frustrating. It meanders at a snail's pace, the recordings are strung together for no sense or reason, it doesn't really explain who is who and the dialogues are clumsy. None of the characters are particularly personable and the end of the film is hypothermic.

On the Horrorview page it was said that this film was very atypical for the rest of Sarno's filmography, since the horror genre was actually not his. But since marketer Chris Nebe wanted a horror film, Sarno tried to deliver one. The generally embarrassing performances of most of the actors - a mix of soft and hardcore actors (many of whom would not have survived the late 1970s) - trying to be real actors gave the film a rather charming, amateurish feel. The Swiss setting and dilapidated Gothic interior would also help to support the cracks that were created by the weak dialogues and the wafer-thin plotting. Conclusion: Vampire Ecstasy is actually an insignificant and inadequate horror film, but more than sufficient as an example of softcore Euro-cult horrotica in the mid-seventies, without the fairytale atmosphere of Rollins' films, perhaps, or the yearning sexual existentialism of Primos Franco, even fuller evocative images.
