Joseph W. Sarno

Joseph W. "Joe" Sarno (born March 15, 1921 in Brooklyn , † April 26, 2010 in New York City ) was an American director, producer and screenwriter. Sarno is next to Russ Meyer and Radley Metzger of the pioneers of sexploitation - film genres of the 1960s.

Pseudonyms

Sarno produced most of his films of the 1960s and 1970s under his nickname Joe Sarno .

From the mid-1970s he turned under pseudonyms. These were: Arthur Kraus , Buck Wilson , Charles Knox , Curtis Hollingwood , Dick Kuzman , Eric / Erik Anderson , Francis X. Bush , Francis Healy , Hammond Thomas , Irving Weiss , Jeff La Touche , Joan Fairley , Joe Smythe , John Parkham , Karl Andersson , Kenneth Morse , Kurt Mondal , Lawrence Henning , Leif Knullar , Lester Jordan , Louis Roman , Louis Warren , Monica Fitta , Otis Hamlin , Peter Verlon , Peter Walsh and Tom Scanlon .

Life

Sarno's cousin is the film and television actor Joseph Minieri , better known as Joe Santos , who in turn is the father of director and producer Perry Santos .

Sarno served in the US Navy during World War II . He made his first adult film in 1961. Many of his films from the 1970s and 1980s can be assigned to the genres of sex and porn . Outside the United States, several of his films were made in Sweden , Denmark and Germany . He produced most of his films himself and also wrote the scripts.

On April 10, 1970, he married the actress Peggy Steffans (* 1938), who appeared in several of his films and also assisted him in the production of some of his films. The marriage resulted in their son Matthew Sarno, who, among other things, shot the family biography The Sarnos: A Life in Dirty Movies in 2013 .

Under his pseudonym Erik Anderson , he has been listed as a film maker in the Hall of Fame of the X-Rated Critics Organization (XRCO) since 1990 .
