action

The aircraft engineer Hans Steinert is intensively involved in the construction of flying machines. Through his work, he begins to neglect his wife Helga. She then turns to one of her husband's students, Eli Platen, who is also working on an aircraft. One day he will be ready and absolutely want to test his machine. Helga takes part in the first attempt at flight, but like Icarus , who came too close to the sun, they climb too high during the flight into the sky and crash. Both of them are killed.

Production notes

The Flight in the Sun was probably created in the winter of 1913/14 in the Bioscop studio in Neubabelsberg . The four-act act with a length of about 1045 meters passed the film censorship on February 2, 1914 and was premiered on March 4, 1914 in the Admiralstheater as part of a press screening.

The flight in the sun presumably marked the film debut of the theater actress Tilla Durieux.

In the film, Hans Grade, a German pilot flew for the first time in a feature film.

criticism

"The Flight in the Sun", a play in four acts by Stellan Rye, gave the Admiralstheater the opportunity to see Tilla Durieux and Karl Clewing as film artists. (...) The role of the refined seductress suits Tilla Durieux particularly well, and so she also knows how to be captivating in the film through gestures and spirited play. The staging stays away from sentimentality and brings a psychologically deepened game. "
