action
In Los Angeles , the thief Noonan steals a precious diamond . Meanwhile, the hairdressing apprentice Wilbur Hoolick is killed by his boss, because he can do nothing. When he tried his hand at the private school teacher Bob Miles and almost injured him, he felt confirmed and wanted to return to his home in Washington . Noonan, who hid the diamond in Wilbur's jacket, follows him. Because otherwise he cannot afford the ticket, Wilbur disguises himself as a schoolboy and drives with a children's ticket. The fraud is exposed and Wilbur hides from Noonan and the conductor at Nancy Collins, Bob's lover. She takes care of the supposedly sick boy.
Despite his size and deep voice, Wilbur goes unnoticed and follows Nancy into Mrs. Brennan's private school for girls in Oregon . The girls are taken with the presence of a boy and urge him to stay at least until the Spring Festival. Only Bob finds out about Wilbur and wants to get rid of him because he thinks he wants to mess with Nancy. Meanwhile, Noonan tries to get onto the school grounds several times in vain because he has also seen through Wilbur's game. After the Spring Festival, when Wilbur misdirected the choir, Noonan pretends to be Wilbur's father who wants to pick him up. Wilbur falls into the trap of Noonan, but is saved by Bob and the police.
In the final scene, Bob, who was drafted as a reservist , wants to have himself shaved at the train hairdresser's and ends up in Wilbur's chair again.

The Gangsterschreck was filmed from October to December 1954. The film was released in US cinemas on August 25, 1955.
The gangster horror is based on a play Connie Goes Home by Fanny Kilbourne and Edward Childs Carpenter . This was filmed in 1942 under the title The Major and the Girl . Diana Lynn had already participated in this film.
criticism
The lexicon of international films called Der Gangsterschreck a "very silly film, in which the clown Lewis, however, can show some of his cabinet pieces".
Cinema wrote: “The Funny Pursuit is a remake of Billy Wilder's The Major and the Girl, 42. Conclusion: clowning with some Lewis cabinet pieces ”.
