action
The tyrannical king of Takicardie makes life difficult for his subjects. The only adversary: a colorful bird that always knows how to save itself from the despot's shots. One night strange things happened in the stately bedchamber. The two figures in a painting - a chimney sweep and a shepherdess - come to life and fall in love. Now the bird's great hour strikes. He helps them escape their framed prison. The king, who in turn has fallen in love with the shepherdess, lets the police chase the trio. When he succeeds in tracking down the three, he takes the girl prisoner and locks the other two in a lion arena. What he did not expect: The executioners let their meal train them.

criticism
"A visually and literarily delightful fairy tale adventure, which, in addition to imaginative entertainment, is also a political and moral parable about power."
