Der Kater mit Hut (Original title: The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That! ) Is a Canadian - British - American animated series . It was first broadcast on August 7, 2010 on Treehouse TV (Canada) and simultaneously on September 6, 2010 on PBS Kids (USA) and Children's Independent Television and Tiny Pop (UK). The award-winning series is based on the book of the same name, The Cat in the Hat , published by Dr. Seuss known Theodor Seuss Geisel and was published by Random House-Verlag .

The series was developed and produced by Portfolio Entertainment , Random House Children Entertainment and Collingwood O'Hare Productions . From 2010 to 2018, a total of 80 episodes were produced, which were broadcast in three seasons.

action

In every episode, the tomcat in the hat, spoken of by Martin Short , goes on new adventures with the neighbors Sally and Nick and other companions. The “Thinga-ma-jigger” is often used for this purpose, which, among other things, can fly, swim and change its size in order to survive the versatile voyages of discovery. The adventures are triggered by a question from Nick or Sally at the beginning of an episode. The scientific journeys take the protagonists around the world.

Characters

main characters

  • The main character is the tomcat in the hat, who is voiced by Martin Short. It is a knowledgeable and adventurous tomcat with human characteristics . He acts as a guide for Sally and Nick on their global travels. He speaks in rhymes and reminds us of the character of Dr. Seuss, on which it is based.
  • Nick is voiced by Jacob Ewanikuk for the first two seasons and by Deandray Hamilton for the third season. Nick is Sally's neighbor and her best friend. He wears an orange sweater, a white short-sleeved undershirt, blue trousers and gray shoes with black soles.
  • Sally is initially set to music by Alexa Torrington, Halle Nunes takes over the last season. She is Nick's best friend. She wears a dark pink headband, a short-sleeved white undershirt, a dress in the same color as the headband with two pockets and Mary Jane shoes of the same color with brown soles.
  • The fish is voiced by Rob Tinkler. He shows slightly pessimistic features and only slightly resembles the figure in the underlying children's book. In contrast to the fish in the book, it is red and obviously belongs to the cat. He's also acting much more cooperatively than the original character.
  • Ding 1 and Ding 2 are also dubbed by Rob Tinkler. These are two crazy but dedicated supporters of an unknown species.
  • The mother of Sally and Nick is voiced by Tracey Hoyt, respectively. Before each adventure, she is asked for permission by the children. Usually she can only be heard in the individual episodes, sometimes she can be seen as a person. In her role as Nick's mother, she speaks with a Jamaican accent.

Animals

Some animals can also be seen in the episodes.

The giant panda Zhu Zhu (with the voice of Heather Bambrick) is approached by the cat, Sally and Nick in the episode Bamboozled so that he can find a present for their panda .

Ralph (dubbed Annick Obonsawin) is a gray- haired reindeer , also referred to as a caribou in some episodes. In the Christmas episode, he wins the candy stick hunt and traveled in the Thinga-ma-jigger.

The beaver lady Betty (voiced by Angela Lewis) has big teeth. Your beaver dam will be destroyed by things . Betty has a friend (voiced by Jeffrey Tambor ) who is helping her repair the dam. He also appears in the Christmas episode.

Compared to other broadcast formats

The production is similar to the PBS series Coco - the curious monkey (in the original Curious George) and Sid the Science . The target group of The Hangover with the Hat is - in contrast to the series mentioned - that of preschool children , who are addressed through various science and learning concepts.

After the real film version of The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That! , which ran in German-speaking countries under the title Ein Kater macht Theater , which fell through with audiences and critics in 2004, the author's widow, Audrey Geisel, prohibited any further implementation of her husband's works with actors. The animated series adaptation was approved by her.
