The lawn mower dog (original title: Lawnmower Dog ) is the second episode of the first season of the animated series Rick and Morty . It was written by Ryan Ridley and directed by John Rice. The episode was first broadcast on December 9, 2013 on Adult Swim, the German first broadcast on December 7, 2014 on TNT series. Rick and Morty plan to plant the idea of Morty's math teacher in a dream, to give him an A in math, while Morty's dog Schnuffel develops its own consciousness through Rick's help.

action

Jerry is annoyed by the lack of intelligence of Morty's dog Schnuffel, whereupon Rick develops a device that initially only makes him intelligent enough that he can obey commands at every word and cope with tasks assigned to him. In Rick's garage, this tells Morty that he wants to implant his math teacher Mr. Goldenfold through an inception with the idea of giving Morty an A in math, so that they have more time for their adventures, as Morty no longer has to do homework.

When they arrive at Mr. Goldenfold's, he fell asleep on the couch in front of the television while he was watching the series Mrs. Pancakes . Rick and Morty invade Goldenfold's dream, who is on board a plane and is hooking up with that Mrs. Pancakes. When he notices the intruders, he opens fire on them out of nowhere. Rick gives his grandson to understand that unlike the movie Inception , if you get killed in someone else's dream, you actually die. Similar to the film, Goldenfold has set up a kind of protection that keeps him safe from intruders. After a brief, violent exchange of fire, Goldenfold opens the aircraft door, which causes all of the occupants to be sucked out except for him. He can land the plane and tries to kill Rick and Morty with a rocket, who in the case of necessity go one dream level deeper and thus get into Mrs. Pancake's dream.

In her dream, a kind of charming swingers meeting takes place, to which, to Morty's displeasure, his sister Summer is also invited. Rick concludes that Mr. Goldenfold probably transferred his dream constructs to Mrs. Pancakes' dream. They flee one level deeper by entering the dream of a centaur who is present . Suddenly Scary Terry appears, who chases the two through further dream levels, uses the word bitch too often and tells them that they could run away, but cannot hide. After a long hunt, Rick suggests hiding as the only way out and Scary Terry, disappointed, has to give up the hunt after six more dream hours and realizes that they can hide.

With the Smiths, Schnuffel has meanwhile developed his own consciousness, including human language, through Rick's device, sees on television how the noble wolf became man's best friend and asks Summer of the Night to know where his testicles are . Furthermore, he would like to be called snowball in the future because his fur is fluffy and white. Together with other dogs, all in mechanical robotic suits, he begins to enslave humanity.

Back in the dream world, Scary Terry reaches his house, annoyed and depressed, in which his wife and son are waiting for him. Rick and Morty followed him and now have the idea to invade Scary Terry's dream in order to use him to come back up the dream levels and to threaten Mr. Goldenfold. Scary Terry has a nightmare that night because he forgot to study for the math test at Scary School. Rick and Morty are at his side and when he wakes up, he shows himself to be extremely nice and balanced towards the two of them. They stay for breakfast before they go up the dream levels as planned and Scary Terry kills the people present in the respective dreams. Back in Mr. Goldenfold's dream, Scary Terry intimidates him and wakes up in panic on his couch. Traumatized by the events, he actually wants to give Morty an A in math and presents himself as the sole source of ideas.

Rick and Morty get home to discover that Snowball's army of dogs has enslaved large parts of the city. Morty in particular is upset about it. However, Rick has an idea why he makes Morty take pills that lead to kidney failure in him. Then you can see Morty lying in the hospital in bad shape and Snowball trying to save his only human friend. Thereupon Snowball wakes up and the viewer is revealed that Rick planted this idea in his dream, whereby Snowball realizes that the colonization of the earth and humanity, with its cruelty and pain, is not the solution and the dogs then move on to a new one Open the planet where they are in charge, but not before Morty and Snowball can say goodbye and the dog tells him that he can still call him Schnuffel.

In a scene after the credits, Rick and Scary Terry can be seen sitting at school with Mr. Scary Johnson, who asks to be called Mr. Scary Glenn. He wishes that, in contrast to their terrifying nature, the Scarys should much rather relax first. His appearance and demeanor underline this requirement immensely.
