action

It's Christmas, so Jerry confiscates all of his family's gadgets so that the family can celebrate the holiday in a fun mood. The family is also expecting a visit from Jerry's parents, Leonard and Joyce. To the surprise of everyone involved, the two bring a third person, a dark-skinned man named Jacob. Rick turns up a short time later with a friend named Ruben, who is homeless and disguised as Santa Claus, greets the guests briefly and then retires with him to his garage.

During dinner, it turns out that Jacob is the lover of Jerry's mother and that his father likes to watch the two of them in their love affairs. For Jerry this destroys the idea of a Christian, family Christmas party and in the end he is the only one who is not in the holiday mood, as the rest of the family members have absolutely no problem with this concept. Meanwhile, Morty visits his grandfather in the garage and sees that Ruben is in very bad shape. Rick then sends his grandson, scaled down, inside Ruben so that he can investigate the causes.

Once inside Rubens' body, Morty discovers a kind of amusement park, including attractions such as the bubble falls, the Spleen Mountains or the curse of the pancreas, an idea by Rick that is rejected here and there. Morty is said to be in Rubens' body with a confidante of Rick, Dr. Meet Xenon Blum and his colleagues, Roger, Poncho and Annie. Morty immediately falls in love with the latter. They travel together through Anatomy Park and repeatedly encounter various diseases, such as ulcerative colitis , hepatitis A , tuberculosis or gonorrhea , which have freed themselves from their "cages". At first Annie shows a relatively great indifference towards Morty, but quickly puts it down. It is also she who discovered Coliobacteria in Poncho's backpack, who then reveals that he consciously influenced the safety of the park in order to no longer be Bloom's henchman. Gradually, Morty's companions die, as Ruben dies a short time later and his body begins to cease its vital functions.

Meanwhile, Ethan, Summers friend, knocks furiously on the Smiths window and asks why she's not responding to any of his messages. After a brief argument, Jacob can calm Ethan down by asking him why he was aggressive.

Back in Rubens' body, Dr. Bloom, Morty and Annie shows a film of Ruben and the creation of the park. Morty and Annie are now very close. A short time later, Rubens' body begins to collapse, which is why the three of them have to take the bone pull that leads through Rubens' skeleton in order to be able to leave the body through Rubens' nipple. However, the train does not have an autopilot, which is why Dr. Bloom stays behind to start the train. Shortly before he is overwhelmed by colia bacteria, however, he notices that there is an autopilot, but can no longer escape inside the train. After the bacteria got into the train, Morty and Annie managed to escape, but were immediately threatened with hepatitis A. At the last second, hepatitis C intervenes, eats hepatitis A and gives both of them their lives.

Meanwhile, Rick has flown the body of the dead Ruben into space and enlarged it so that Morty and Annie can leave the body. Rubens' body then covers the entire North American continent and causes panic everywhere. Rick uses dynamite to detonate the body and it's raining blood all over America. Back at the Smiths, Annie reveals that she's got the job done with Dr. Blooms has studied and is able to create a new anatomy park, this time a safer one. She also likes Rick's idea of the curse on the pancreas.

In a scene after the credits, Rick can be seen using headphones and a microphone to communicate with Annie, who tells him that the curse of the pancreas will probably not be implemented in the new anatomy park. It is revealed that the new park is being built in Ethan, who seems pretty cold, and only asks when it would be paid for.

useful information

  • The plot of the episode is very much based on the movie Jurassic Park from 1993, not least because Anatomy Park is also based on a tourist attraction. As in the film, the exhibits (diseases) break out and the visitors and employees have to get to safety.
  • Dr. Xenon Bloom's appearance is very similar to the park founder, John Hammond, portrayed by Richard Attenborough . He has similar visions, wears similar glasses and has a walking stick at the end of which something has also been preserved.
  • The name Bloom is also a reference to actor Jeff Goldblum , who played the role of chaos theorist Dr. Ian Malcolm held.
  • Poncho's role alludes to the role played by Wayne Knight of Dennis Nedry , who in the original film turned off the electricity for the fences and thus enabled the dinosaurs to escape.

reception

Zack Handlen from the AV Club sees in the episode: "Yet“ Anatomy Park ”works, and it's another point in favor of the show that it works because of trappings and idiosyncrasies that are already established parts of Rick And Morty's universe."
