The Saltpeter War (original title: Caliche sangriento ) is a Chilean feature film from 1969 and the first film by Helvio Soto . The action takes place in 1879/80 during the Saltpeter War , in which Chile, Bolivia and Peru fought for control of the saltpeter deposits in the Atacama Desert .
