The Schuhu and the Flying Princess is a "fairy tale novel in many chapters" by Peter Hacks , which deals with the inaccessibility of happiness. It was first published in 1964 in terms of its meaning and form , in 1966 Uta Birnbaum set up the text for “the Schaubühne” together with Peter Hacks. The occasion was the studio production of the State Drama School Berlin in the BAT on April 29, 1966 (Berlin workers and student theater) Berlin. Uta Birnbaum directed. The actors were the graduates of the 3rd academic year together with the students of the 1st academic year. Renate Krößner played the flying princess and Hermann Beyer played the Schuhu. Set design: Pieter Hein, music: Hans-Dieter Hosalla . The children's book was published in 1966 (has been designed by the illustrator Heidrun Hegewald ). The Schuhu was edited for the record in 1968 (speakers: Günter Strack , Bruno Ganz , Angela Schmid ).

Udo Zimmermann's opera Der Schuhu and the Flying Princess , based on the fairy tale, premiered in Dresden in 1976.
