Der Stern is a German crime film from 1914 with Fern Andra in the lead role.

action

"The Star" is the name of a criminal organization that Bessy Shaw, the protagonist of the story, has to deal with. The millionaire's daughter is traveling to Nice by train when a young man gets into her compartment. Suddenly it disappeared again at the destination station. Bessy only meets him again when she checks into her posh hostel, the Hotel Majestic. He, too, who calls himself Jack and belongs to the "star", has taken a room here.

The next night he gets into Bessy's suite and tries to steal her jewelry. He is surprised by the young woman and she can drive him away. Bessy calls the police, who also arrive immediately and want to arrest Jack. But pity grabs Bessy and she makes a false statement, so that the police are led on the wrong track. A little later, three more thugs from “Der Stern” try to rob Bessy in the hotel room. But at this moment it is Jack who defends Bessy manfully - out of love.

Production notes

The film produced in the Eiko-Film-Ateliers in Berlin-Marienfelde has a length of three acts . The film was shot in the spring of 1914. After the film censorship was passed in June 1914, the premiere took place in October 1914 in the Leipzig Royal Pavilion. In Austria, where the film was initially banned, Der Stern was finally released in 1917, with a youth ban. There it was around 1100 meters long.

The star was the first major production that Fern Andra shot in Germany and with which she finally prevailed. It is not known who played the jack.

Reviews

“A particularly dramatic film is the three-act drama 'Der Stern', a detective piece, which receives special interest through the participation of the famous film actress Fern Andra. (...) Excellent presentation and beautiful pictures also contribute to the success of this film. "
