The Day when Stalin's Pants Disappeared ( Macedonian : Γолемата Вода, Golemata Voda , The Great Water ) is a 2004 Macedonian feature film directed by Ivo Trajkov . The film is based on the award-winning novel Golemata Voda by Zhivko Chingo .
action
The film begins with the present, when old Lem Nikodinoski, a Macedonian politician, is hospitalized after a heart attack. On his deathbed, he remembers his childhood: in 1945, at the age of 12, Lem was sent to a Stalinist orphanage for children of fallen enemies of the regime, where Stalin's ideology was hammered into the children. There he meets the mysterious Isak, who is the only one who dares to question the authority of the home manager. Lem and Isak fraternize and lead a common struggle against the system of the time in communist Yugoslavia.
criticism
- film-dienst : A visually stunning film told in flashbacks, which conveys its dark story in a fairytale-like manner, comes up with convincing actors and takes the bitter story a little bit of its sharpness with sarcasm and bizarre.
Awards
The film celebrated its international premiere as part of the AFI Film Festival and won a total of five awards at the Valencia Film Festival , including for best film and for best camera.
