Little Bear (engl. Little Bear ) is a Canadian animated - television series , a small, dreamy and playful focusing grizzly bear stands. Referred to as the Little Bear , it experiences various adventures together with various other animals. The series, produced by Nelvana from 1995 to 2001 and shown on American television, is based on the series of novels Little Bear , which was published from 1957 to 1968. In addition to the adaptation as a television series, the film The Little Bear Movie and the theater show Little Bear: Winter Tales were also made .
content
At the center of the action is Little Bear, an anthropomorphic animal figure that roughly corresponds to the character of a six-year-old boy. As a child he began to discover the world and quickly made friends from the animal kingdom. Like himself, these are also named after their species and are called, for example, owl or duck. Most of the characters behave humanly and have certain properties, but not necessarily suitable for their type. However, this does not apply to all the characters that appear, some of which are depicted like normal animals and cannot speak.
Little by little, more and more characters appear and various adventures are told in which Little Bear is not only more experienced, but also adult and bigger in its portrayal.
Origin and publications
The children's series was produced by the Canadian company Nelvana on behalf of the American television station Nickelodeon . It is based on the content and the drawings of the series of novels Little Bear , published in 1957, written by the Danish author Else Holmelund Minarik and illustrated by the American illustrator Maurice Sendak .
A first season with a total of 42 episodes was first broadcast on Nickelodeon beginning November 6, 1995. The individual episodes were about 8 minutes long. However, three episodes were always shown combined in one broadcast block, so that 14 episodes are sometimes given. It was followed by a second season in 1997, which followed the same scheme and consisted of 45 episodes or 15 episodes. In the following years 1998, 1999 and 2000 a further season appeared, of which the first two comprised 13 and the latter 10 episodes. The last episode was first broadcast on August 7, 2001. These seasons also remained true to the publication principle, so that a total of 195 episodes or 65 episodes were created.
In Germany, the series was broadcast for the first time from April 5 to September 28, 1997 on ZDF on a weekly basis. To this end, the rights were jointly acquired for ARD , ZDF and KI.KA , so that the series could later be seen daily on KI.KA. Originally, not all episodes were shown on ZDF, so the entire first broadcast was on public television on KI.KA. Since then, the series has been repeated several times on KI.KA, later on the premier channel Junior and on Anixe SD .

The theme music for the series was written by Lesley Barber.
