The red corsair (Barbe-Rouge) is a Franco-Belgian comic series published between 1959 and 2004 .
action
The real hero of the series is Rick, whose parents were killed in an attack by the red corsair. The red corsair adopts the orphan and raises him. Rick later finds out that he comes from an influential French aristocratic family. As an able seafarer he fought against the English and Spanish and was even taken into service by the French king. The red corsair provides him with a clever advisor with the old tripod and with the black Baba, a former slave, a strong protector at his side.
background
Jean-Michel Charlier wrote the series, which was drawn up by Victor Hubinon . Eddy Paape and Jijé had to step in at short notice to prevent gaps in the appearance of Pilote . When Victor Hubinon dropped the series, Gilles Chaillet was finishing the current album. The successor was Jijé. After his death, Jean-Michel Charlier continued the series with two artists. While Christian Gaty continued the story of Jijé, Patrice Pellerin began an independent adventure in parallel. Jean-Michel Charlier died in 1989. Jean Ollivier ended the unfinished scenario and released another five albums with Christian Gaty. Christian Perrissin wrote the last four albums for Marc Bourgne .
Publications
The series appeared between 1959 and 1968 under the name Le Démon des Caraïbes in Pilote and between 1979 and 1980 as Barbe-Rouge in Super As . Two short stories were published in paperback format. The album production was started by Dargaud and continued by other publishers. The complete edition was by Dargaud. Bastei published the series for the first time in the German-speaking area. The old Zack released two episodes, which were also printed in album form. After Carlsen and Ehapa , Kult took over the edition of the albums. The German-language complete edition was published in 13 volumes in the Egmont Comic Collection between 2013 and 2019.
