The fantasy film The Enchanted Otter is a children's film by director Sven Severin based on the book by Reinhard Günzler from 2004. It is based on the grass lion , a figure that children can identify with, which is intended to bring them closer to the topic of environmental protection.

Benny finds an otter . This is chased by a gang of children. First, Benny manages to save the otter from the other children. But then the otter dies. But then a goblin appears, who gives Benny the opportunity to bring the otter back to life. To do this, however, Benny has to be able to blindly trust another person.
He found this person in the girl Constanze, of all people, whom he had previously disliked. Constanze is very committed to environmental protection. Together they now have to find the cause that led to the death of the otter. They only have as long as the sand flows through the magic hourglass.
They quickly suspect the gang of children who hunted the otter. And one of the boys actually drives his father's tractor and dumps liquid manure into the pond in the nature reserve . With the help of a magic flute, they bring the boy to the goblin. There he should confess his guilt for the death of the otter. Only then can the otter be resuscitated. But even after the boy's admission that he drained the manure, the otter remains dead.
Finally Benny and Constanze discover old batteries on the lake shore . The otter had swallowed one of them. Benny then realizes that he himself was to blame for the death of the otter, because he carelessly threw these batteries into the lake. After this confession, the otter comes back to life.
