Deraeocoris punctum is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs are 5.5 to 6.2 millimeters long. The head and base of the pronotum are black. The rest of the pronotum as well as the scutellum (shield) and the hemielytras are predominantly orange in color. On the label, there is usually a black triangular spot in the middle of the base edge. At the transition to the membrane there is a characteristic black spot on the corium. The Cuneus tips are also black. The membrane is dark gray to black in color. The second antennae is thickened towards the apical end. The black tibiae have two broad white rings.

Occurrence

Deraeocoris punctum occurs in the western Mediterranean. The distribution area extends from the Iberian Peninsula through southern France and Italy to Montenegro. The species is also represented in Madeira .

Way of life

The zoophage bugs, both the adults and the nymphs , feed predatory. Their prey animals include, in particular, aphids , leaf fleas , mites and fringed wings . The bugs are seen from May to August. The bugs are often found on ring thistles ( Carduus ). The species Deraeocoris punctum is an egg hibernator.
