The rivalry between the two Turin clubs, Juventus Turin and FC Turin , has many reasons, not just the regional proximity to each other. However, the bases of the two clubs are fundamental: FC embodies the region, while Juventus has spread fans all over Italy and is the country's most popular club overall. The fan communities, which FC tend to see as the working class - the society that has long been anchored in Turin - and at Juventus, workers for the automotive industry who have migrated from the south, reflect a certain contrast. With the takeover by the Agnelli family in 1923, the demarcation became greater: Juventus moved away through the Agnellis, who control the car brand Fiat and who provide four presidents of the club with Edoardo , Giovanni , Umberto and the current one, Andrea Agnelli , further and further from the working class to an association of the upper class. This is also reflected in the orientation of the various fan and ultra groups, which are more left-wing at FC and mostly right-wing tendencies at Juventus.

The fight for the championship at the end of the 1940s, when Juve was mostly left behind against FC Turin, which among other things won four titles in a row, is also certainly one of the reasons for the increased rivalry . This dominance of the Grande Torino , the title of the successful team of the 1940s, ended with the plane crash of Superga , when the entire team and many officials of the club were killed except for two players. From this event, FC was never able to fully recover, so that in the 1950s and 1960s they only played in midfield of Serie A and even had to relegate to Serie B for a year , while Juventus played regularly for the title and from 1949 brought five championships and two cup wins by 1961 . In the following years the FC won two cups, won their last championship to date in 1975/76 and was runner-up in the two following years, but never reached the class of city rivals, especially in the 1980s and 1990s was very successful, also internationally.

It was only in the 2006/07 season that FC were able to place themselves better than Juve , as they spent the season in Serie B due to the manipulation scandal of 2006 . After the promotion, however, the old order was quickly restored and Juventus was able to win five titles in a row in the seasons 2011/12 to 2015/16 . The FC, on the other hand, was able to re-establish itself in the top division by 2012 after a few relegations and promotions around the turn of the millennium and three seasons in Serie B.
