Derek Lamot Anderson (born July 18, 1974 in Louisville , Kentucky ) is a retired American basketball player . At 196 cm height, he played in the NBA in the position of shooting guard .

Anderson attended the University of Kentucky before the Cleveland Cavaliers selected him 13th in the 1997 NBA Draft . As a rookie , he was quickly noticed in the NBA with an average of 11.7 points per game and was in the NBA All-Rookie Second Team at the end of his rookie season . After this season, Anderson then played another year for the Cavaliers, after which he moved to the Los Angeles Clippers . At the Clippers he had his best season on points with an average of 16.9 points. A year later, in the 2000/01 NBA season , he left the Clippers again and signed a new contract with the San Antonio Spurs . In San Antonio he was the first and so far only time in his NBA career in all 82 season games in the starting lineup. After Anderson came with the Spurs over the play-offs to the Western Conference Finals , he moved to the Portland Trail Blazers . After four years in Portland, in which his level of performance and thus his average playing time fell, he signed a contract with the Houston Rockets , but switched to the Miami Heat during the season . In Miami, Anderson became NBA champions for the only time in his career. After him in the off-season had been offered in 2006 no contract by another NBA team, he stayed until the NBA season 2006/07 into a free agent when the it Charlotte Bobcats took under contract, where he remained until the summer 2008 played. Then he ended his career.
