Derrick O'Connor (born January 3, 1941 in Dublin , Ireland - † June 29, 2018 in Santa Barbara , California ) was an Irish actor . His most famous film role is that of the South African henchman "Pieter Vorstedt" in focal point LA

Life

O'Connor grew up in London and most recently lived with his family in San Francisco . It had its origins in the theater, he directed plays by Samuel Beckett , wrote plays himself and was often on stage. He made many appearances in Edinburgh , Stratford-on-Avon and London's West End. His long and successful career has included numerous leading roles in the US, UK and Australia in film and television. He became known to a wider audience for his roles in three Terry Gilliam films. He also played Jack Stone on The Professionals episode "You're Alright". He had other smaller roles in well-known films such as Pirates of the Caribbean 2 , Brazil and Daredevil .

He was known for shortening or leaving out his lines of text in front of the camera, preferring to let his body and impressive facial expressions do the talking. Gilliam, who had cast O'Connor in three films, noted in his audio commentary that O'Connor had a habit of using most of his dialogue in favor of humor. Notable examples are Time Bandits , in which he reduced his dialogue to simple grunts, or simply repeated Bob Hoskins' dialogue.

O'Connor endorsed independent filmmaking as an important platform for emerging talent to ensure a healthy future for the film industry.

He died on June 29, 2018, at the age of 77, of pneumonia in Santa Barbara, California. He was married and had a son.
