Desmond Luke

Desmond Edgar Fashole Luke (born October 6, 1935 in Freetown ) is a former Sierra Leonean diplomat and politician .

Desmond Luke is the son of the former (until 1973) Speaker of the Parliament of Sierra Leone , Sir Emile Fashole Luke.

education

From 1949 he attended the Taunton School in West Country King's College London ; from 1954 to 1957 he studied philosophy, political science and economics at Keble College in Oxford . In 1958 he conducted research on West African medieval history at Oxford. From 1959 to 1961 he studied law at Magdalene College , Cambridge.

Career

From 1962 to 1969 he practiced the profession of lawyer in Freetown . In 1964, he conducted studies for the United Nations as a United Nations Nations Human Rights Fellows in India. After handing his credentials to Gustav Heinemann on September 25, 1969 , he was the first ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone in the FRG and, at the age of 34, the youngest ambassador in Bonn . On March 19, 1971, Georges Pompidou received his credentials, making him the first Sierra Leonean ambassador to Paris. On May 11, 1971, he was accredited by the European Commission . After all, he was also accredited in the remaining member states of the EEC. From May 19, 1973 to 1975 he was the Sierra Leonean Foreign Minister. From 1977 to 1978 he was Minister of Health. In March 1998, Luke replaced Samuel Beccles-Davies as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. In 2002 he was retired .
