Detlef Malinkewitz (* 1966 in Baesweiler ) is a German singer . He was in the 1990s under the pseudonym L-Viz with his interpretation of Elvis Presley - Songs In the Ghetto known. In 2018 he made a comeback with a new album.

Detlef Malinkewitz appeared as an Elvis interpreter in Las Vegas in the early 1990s and released the CD In Memory - The Very Best of Elvis Presley in 1993 .

Malinkewitz achieved his musical breakthrough in 1996 when he worked under the project name “Ghetto People feat. L-Viz ” entered the international music charts with an interpretation of the Elvis song In the Ghetto published by the record company Sony Music in more than 40 countries around the world . In Germany, the title was in the top ten for four weeks and was awarded a gold record by the Federal Association of the Music Industry for over 250,000 copies sold . For the best “cover hit of the year”, Malinkewitz was also awarded the RSH Gold Prize in 1997 together with the “Ghetto People” .

Following his music career, Malinkewitz studied communication science, political science and philosophy at RWTH Aachen University. Four years later he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. From 2009 to 2015 Malinkewitz worked as a consultant to the Mayor of Aachen . Since 2015 he has been working as a cultural advisor for the city of Aachen.

In 2018 he started a comeback and produced the album feeling good in the Dutch Wisseloord Studios under his real name Detlef Malinkewitz, which was released on August 10, 2018. There were 25 musicians from Europe, the mixing and recording engineer Ronald Prent and the four-time Grammy winner Darcy Proper. Malinkewitz reinterprets rock and soul classics from the 60s and 70s with great orchestration, including songs like Hoochie Coochie Man , I Put A Spell On You , Fly Me to the Moon or Creep ; and the eponymous Feeling Good by Nina Simone . The album reached number 13 in the German album charts .
