Detlef Prinz

Detlef W. Prinz (* 1950 ) is a German journalist and media entrepreneur. Prinz heads PrinzMedien Holding, which he founded in 1992. The company is based in Berlin , in the listed industrial building Tempelhofer Ufer 23–24 .

Among other things, Prinz publishes the monthly newspapers The Atlantic Times and The German Times . He is also the publisher of the information and background service Der Hauptstadtbrief , which appears as a printed edition in magazine format and as an online edition on the Internet. He was temporarily the executive secretary of the first chairman of the union IG Metall . Among other things, he was a member of the SPD Federal Party Council and chairman of various federal commissions. He has been a founding member of the IZA Policy Fellows since 2005 and is a member of the boards of trustees of the Family Business Foundation and the aid organization CARE Germany . Prinz is an advisor and friend of the SPD politician Frank-Walter Steinmeier , whom he accompanied several times on trips abroad as a member of the business delegation during his first time as Foreign Minister.

Prinz hit the headlines in 2010 when Focus magazine reported on April 26, 2010 that Prinz had worked for the Czech secret service. Prince successfully sued the report; the Cologne Regional Court issued an injunction against the reporting. In a “memo” (editorial) by the deputy editor-in-chief of Focus Markus Krischer from September 2012, Focus reported that after the judgment of a Prague court, the relevant documents were forged by former members of the Czech secret service. The editorial staff and the publisher would regret the inaccurate reporting.

Prince is a member of the SPD and was at times a member of the SPD party council. Prinz is a member of the Ludwig Erhard Foundation and chairman of the Karl Schiller Foundation .
