Hugo Schuckmann (* 1611 in Osnabrück ; † February 10, 1679 in Lübeck ) was a German merchant and councilor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Hugo Schuckmann , who immigrated from Osnabrück in 1641, was a merchant in Lübeck and active in the Russian trade. As a member and senior citizen of the corporation of the Lübeck Novgorodfahrer he received from the Lübeck council in 1652 the order for a legation trip to Tsar Alexei I of Russia. The aim was to secure Lübeck's trade interests, which were repeatedly called into question in Russia. Schuckmann obtained confirmation from Tsar Alexei I of a letter of protection issued to Lübeck merchants by Tsar Michael I in 1636 , but no further privileges in trade. In 1669 he was elected to the Lübeck Council . Together with the councilor Johann Siricius he represented the city in 1670 as envoy to Denmark. Fehling also names him in the council as a member of the Lübeck Schonenfahrer . Schuckmann was buried in the Marienkirche in Lübeck , the coat of arms grave plate is no longer verifiable.
