Detlev Grabs (born October 29, 1960 in Berlin ) is a former swimming athlete from the GDR . He is a professor at the Université du Québec .

Life

Detlev Grabs won his first GDR championship title in 1977 with the four-by-200-meter freestyle relay of SC Dynamo Berlin . In the same year, Grabs won his first international medal at the European Championships in Jönköping , when the four-by-200-meter freestyle relay with Rainer Strohbach , Roger Pyttel , Detlev Grabs and Frank Pfütze took third place behind the relays from the USSR and from the BRD occupied. The following year he finished sixth in the four-by-200-meter freestyle relay at the 1978 World Swimming Championships . Grabs won his only championship title on an individual route in 1979 when he won the 200 meter and 400 meter freestyle. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , Grabs was eliminated from the 200 meter and 400 meter freestyle run. The four-by-200-meter freestyle relay made up of Frank Pfütze, Jörg Woithe , Detlev Grabs and Rainer Strohbach won the silver medal behind the Soviet relay and ahead of the Brazilians.

From 1984 to 1990 Grabs studied medicine at the Humboldt University in Berlin . After completing his doctorate, he was an assistant at the Institute for Anatomy until 1997. From 1997 to 2007 Grabs was an assistant professor at the Swiss University of Friborg . Since 2007 he has been Professor of Anatomy and Biochemistry at the Université du Québec in Trois-Rivières .
