Through America in a flash is a 1939 American animated short film directed by Tex Avery .

action

The narrator introduces the Empire State Building in New York City . A crowd has gathered as the extreme climber Mr. Butter Finger, the " human fly ", wants to climb the building.

The journey continues to an American military academy and further south to the Everglades . The spokesman warns that yellow fever is particularly feared in these latitudes - a researcher kills a mosquito on the back of his hand , which then gives a loud cry of pain. Farther west, in Texas , you see a cowboy (Engl. Coll. Cowpuncher ) a cow hit. The narrator says that this picture cannot be correct and the cowpuncher also confirms that he is surprised, but continues to hit the cow.

A black hitchhiker stands in Alaska and sings Carry Me Back to Old Virginny . An Eskimo woman takes him in her arms, carries him to Virginia and drops him just past the border marker. We continue to the Valley of the Giants in Oregon , where trees are felled for the logging industry and directed at river crossings using a traffic light system. In Wyoming , a prairie dog sees a tree through his binoculars and exclaims “Timber!” Enthusiastically - numerous prairie dogs rush off. In California , a gold prospector finds a gold nugget and whispers the find into the camera - the area is immediately occupied by dozens of gold prospectors.

The Indian cave dwellers always run at right angles to the ground, also downwards. With the Indians in South Dakota , children are traditionally carried on their backs. An Indian woman who finally wants to see her adult child stand on its own two feet is suddenly confronted with a refusing and roaring adult child. Snakes dance the Indian snake dance.

In Yellowstone National Park , the reliable geyser turns out to be a drop of water that always jumps into a spittoon on time. In the park, a shy fawn mutates into a little monster that knocks on the door of the hunter's house and vigorously demands food.

Meanwhile, Mr. Butter Finger has almost reached the roof of the Empire State Building. When the narrator asks if he has something to say to the audience, he just yells “Heeelp!”.
