Deuce is the second solo album of Rory Gallagher and released on November 28, 1971 at Atlantic Records .

admission

In contrast to his first album, which was supposed to sound more precise and organized, Rory Gallagher decided on a different approach with the successor. The album was supposed to capture the raw energy of a live performance. To achieve this goal, some recordings were made directly before or after concerts and the production was kept minimalist.

Remaster

In 1997 Deuce was remastered by Colin Fairly . He used Tony Arnold's Courthouse Facilities in Dorset for this . The remaster released in 2000 contained the bonus track "Persuasion".

reception

Dave Thompson from Allmusic sees Deuce as a blueprint for the recordings that followed in 1972 and 1973, on which Gallagher's reputation as a guitar virtuoso is mainly based (“the blueprint for most of what he'd accomplish over the next two years of recording”, “that peak would come during 1972-1973 with the albums upon which Gallagher's reputation is today most comfortably set "). The Musikexpress voted Gallagher 1971 for the debut album and Deuce as "most popular guitarist".

The style of the guitarist Johnny Marr of The Smiths was of Deuce affected:

"There was one day when I was playing along with the Deuce album which was a complete turning point for me as a guitar player."

"There was a day when I replayed the album Deuce that was a complete turning point for me as a guitarist."

- Johnny Marr in an interview with the music magazine The Guitar Magazine , January 1997
