German Society for Policy Advice

The German Society for Political Advice ( degepol for short , in its own spelling : de'ge'pol ) is the association of German-speaking political advisors . The association , based in Berlin , was founded on May 25th, 2002 and claims to be independent, cross-party and supported by a voluntary board.

Goals and Activities

The purpose of the association is to promote further training and professionalization of professionals in the field of policy advice . Among other things, de'ge'pol names the objectives of ensuring quality and ethical standards in the political consulting industry, conveying a clear profile of political consulting and management to the actors in the political field and the public, as well as building a common professional self-image.

In Germany and the European Union, the association comments on projects and decisions that affect the professional practice of political advice. It is in dialogue with other associations relevant to professional policy and participates in public discussions on the practice of policy advice, in particular on its regulation and professional standards as well as on educational pathways and qualifications.

The board of directors manages the business, plans the activities and represents the membership externally. The board is elected by the general assembly for three years. Dominik Meier, co-founder and managing partner of miller und meier consulting GmbH, political consulting and public affairs, has been the chairman since 2002.

The de'ge'pol advisory board is a source of inspiration and a discussion forum from the industry for the industry in exchange with the de'ge'pol board members. The advisory board is also involved in the voluntary self-regulation in the German Council for Interest Representation.

Members

Members of degepol can be persons or corporations. Personal members are professional practitioners who have experience in policy advice . You work in the areas of political communication and public affairs , campaign advice and policy advice in various countries. You work in agencies , companies , associations , political parties or as self-employed. Since January 2010, membership has also been open to legal entities. Corporate members are organizations that work in the professional field, especially agencies and consulting firms. Corporate members can send up to five representatives to degepol.

Quality, ethics and transparency

The association's main concerns are quality standards, rules of conduct and transparency for policy advice. The association has published a catalog of criteria for quality management in policy advice. In 2003 a code of conduct for political advisors was adopted at the general assembly. Since 2009, the association has been publicly advocating a registration requirement for interest representatives at EU level and in Germany.

Memberships

Since 1987, the association, together with the German Public Relations Society (DPRG), the Federal Association of Communicators (BdKom) and the Society for Public Relations Agencies (GPRA), has supported the German Council for Public Relations (DRPR). In October 2017 the de'ge'pol left the DRPR in a dispute.
