history

The German Böhmerwaldbund was founded on April 17, 1884 in Budweis, based on the model of the German School Association "to elevate Germanism in the Bohemian Forest ". As a direct reaction, the Czech Národní jednota pošumavská ("National Association of the Bohemian Forest Region") arose in Prague . After the end of the First World War and the establishment of Czechoslovakia , the German Böhmerwaldbund joined the Federation of Germans in Bohemia , in 1925 the German School Association Südmark and, as a branch, the Reich German Association for Germanness Abroad . In the course of the annexation of the Sudeten German territories to the German Reich , the association was dissolved in 1938.

After the expulsion , the first Bohemian Forest meeting took place in Linz in 1949 . On March 30, 1958, the German Böhmerwaldbund was founded in Ulm with the aim of preserving the heritage of the formerly German-speaking part of the Bohemian Forest with its culture and landscapes. Since the opening of the Iron Curtain in 1989, the Böhmerwaldbund has devoted itself increasingly to the preservation of cultural monuments and to German-Czech reconciliation.

The Association of Bohemian Forests in Upper Austria was founded on July 1, 1952. In 2009, the name of the association was changed to Böhmerwaldbund Oberösterreich .
