The German striped fern ( Asplenium × alternifolium , syn .: Asplenium germanicum ) is a hybrid in the genus of striped ferns ( Asplenium ) within the striped fern family (Aspleniaceae). Its parents are the Nordic striped fern ( Asplenium septentrionale ) and the diploid subspecies of the brown-stemmed striped fern ( Asplenium trichomanes subsp. Trichomanes ). It occurs in Europe and Western Asia .
description
The German striped fern is a perennial herbaceous plant . Its fronds are 5 to 20 cm long and bare. The petiole is as long as or a little longer than the blade and is glossy chestnut brown to the middle. The leaf blade is single or double pinnate at the base, its outline is narrowly lanceolate. There are two to five leaflets on each side, the lower ones are further apart and more strongly split. The upper ones are less divided or undivided, wedge-shaped and notched at the top. No mature spores are formed.
Chromosome set
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 108. The clan is triploid , two genomes come from the tetraploid Nordic striped fern ( Asplenium septentrionale ) and one from the diploid subspecies of the brown-stemmed striped fern ( Asplenium trichomanes subsp. Trichomanes ).
ecology
The German striped fern is a hemicryptophyte .
Occurrence
This clan is one of the most common hybrids among the striped ferns . However, it only occurs where both types of parents meet. It occurs on rocks or walls made of silicate stone in Europe and Western Asia .
