General
The German Fire Brigade Museum in Fulda , Hesse, has its origins in the establishment of the German Fire Brigade Museum Fulda e. V. on June 9, 1963. In 1988 an extension was opened, which presents the history of fire fighting from the Middle Ages to the present day on 1,600 m² of exhibition space . Extinguishing devices such as leather buckets, box syringes , pumps, turntable ladders and fire engines , the latter from Magirus , Magirus-Deutz , Hanomag-Henschel , MAN and Mercedes-Benz, will be on display . The large devices are set up in pits, which are enclosed by raised "sidewalks". Due to this representation, children and wheelchair users are also able to see everything clearly.
The museum shows the history of fire, fire fighting and fire protection not only as an area of technical history , but also as part of cultural and social history . In Hall I there are exhibits and the like on the history of fire, with special emphasis on fire fighting and fire protection, mainly from the 16th to the 19th century. Hall II is dedicated to the time since the 20th century. In front of the museum entrance is a small garden with selected plants related to fire . Tourist information boards on federal motorway 7 point to the fire brigade museum.
Partner museums are the Styrian Fire Brigade Museum in Groß Sankt Florian , the Upper Austrian Fire Brigade Museum in St. Florian and the Vorarlberg Museum World in Frastanz .
