History and organization
The association based in Munich was founded in 1996. Members are primarily lawyers , tax consultants , auditors and notaries . The more than 2500-page practical handbook of inheritance law advice from Otto-Schmidt-Verlag was written by members. The association maintains so-called sections in all 16 federal states, which are responsible for the respective federal state. The association has about 600 members, mainly in the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition, there are members in 24 other nations (e.g. USA or Canada with numerous German emigrants). Founding and honorary president is Klaus Michael Groll from Munich.
Section heads are named for each German federal state.
Inheritance days
Since 1998 the so-called "Inheritance Law Days" have been held annually at different locations throughout the Federal Republic. The idea was developed by Gerhard Ruby , who first held such a six-day series of events in Villingen-Schwenningen in 1998. The success with over 3000 visitors was so great that the forum made such days of inheritance its trademark. At these open events, in particular, lawyers specializing in inheritance law give lectures “without legal German” on all inheritance law, gift and inheritance tax issues. Since 2000, the Inheritance Law Forum has also been providing information about inheritance law and inheritance tax law with its section heads as guests in numerous television and radio programs (e.g. coffee or tea or on Germany radio ) as well as national magazines and newspapers such as Focus , Die Zeit or Bild .
Series of publications
The forum itself publishes a series of publications on inheritance law and inheritance tax law. The aim of the so-called "guidelines" is to make inheritance law and inheritance tax law understandable for laypeople.
European Academy
Because of the increasing internationalization of inheritance law, z. B. through multinational marriages or stays abroad, the association founded the Europa-Akademie, which mainly deals with questions of international private law. This is also based in Munich.
Inheritance law report
The member body is the so-called inheritance law report, which has been published quarterly since the association was founded. It gives an overview of what is happening in the association, the current case law on inheritance law in the civil courts , the tax courts on inheritance and gift tax law, as well as specialist publications in magazines and books.
