The German Center for Cardiovascular Research e. V. ( listen ? / I ; DZHK) is a partner of the German Centers for Health Research , which are committed to improving prevention, diagnosis and treatment of common diseases. It was founded in 2011 on the initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and is funded 90 percent by the federal government and 10 percent by those countries in which its member institutions are based. Members are 28 partner institutions. The most important and supreme body of the association is the general assembly, which meets twice a year, in which all fundamental decisions are made on the strategic direction, changes in the association structure, the addition of new DZHK Principal Investigators (leading scientists) and the economic and investment plan of the center. Board of Directors, which advises on the strategic direction and represents the center externally. The spokesman for the board is Thomas Eschenhagen . In the Research Coordinating Committee (RCC) all sites are represented. The RCC is an advisory and preparatory body for the general assembly, but can also be understood as an "extended board". The international scientific advisory board advises the DZHK on its scientific orientation and strategic development. The Commission of Donors (KdZG) is the center's exchange body with the donors, i.e. with the BMBF and the ten host states (Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Hamburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate and Schleswig -Holstein). In strategic as well as essential financial, organizational and personnel issues, the Board of Directors and the General Assembly are obliged to obtain the approval of the donor commission. The office is located in Berlin . The focus of the work of the office is on supporting the board of directors in coordinating scientific cooperation in the DZHK.

  • The DZHK Funding Management, located at the Max Delbrück Center , is responsible for the administrative approval of the projects, accompanies the implementation and checks the usage lists.
  • The location managers coordinate the activities of the seven DZHK locations and are also decentralized employees of the office.

At the DZHK, current results of basic research are being converted into new diagnostic procedures and treatment strategies for the affected patients and new treatment guidelines are being drawn up. In addition to collaboration in the research programs, there are “cooperative research initiatives” in which all of the center's locations cooperate and which also provide funds for collaboration with scientists outside the DZHK.

financing

90 percent of the DZHK is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Each DZHK partner institution receives the remaining ten percent from its respective federal state.
