style

Dhalia's Lane doesn't play exclusively Celtic music, although the main part of the music consists of Irish dances ( jigs , reels , polkas ), vocal pieces and ballads. In addition to these traditional pieces, Dhalia's Lane also has songs from the Breton , French , Arabic , Low German and German- speaking areas in its program; there is also a Yiddish song. In addition to traditional pieces, the band also mainly plays their own compositions, such as the very medieval piece "Der Schnitter" from the CD "Lifeline" from 2013.

Depending on the performance, up to five musicians give around 50 concerts a year - in addition to performances e.g. B. in clubs or at events (e.g. Night of the Museums in Frankfurt / Main on the stage of the Bundesbank) they perform at various open airs and festivals. In addition to a television appearance on HR3 (on the subject of Lindenfels ), the band (Wild Silk) wrote the song (Breton Dance) for a ZDF television film and one of their songs ("Elamal") was used as background music for a contribution to the 2005 ZDF annual review . They were also the opening act for the famous Irish band Dubliners .

Although the concerts mostly focus on the area between Gießen and Heidelberg , there are also performances from Wilhelmshaven to Munich . The band even performs abroad: In addition to Austria and Luxembourg , there was also a performance (still under the name Wild Silk) at the Mary From Dungloe Festival in Dungloe , Ireland.

The band has released seven CDs (including previous bands "Dhalia" and "Wild Silk"). Some of them are sold under the INDIGO label.

Band history

The band name Dhalia's Lane has only been around since May 2005. In the period from 2002 the band was only called Dhalia - the name had to be changed due to a name dispute. In the period from 1994 to 2001 there was the band Wild Silk , which officially broke up at the end of 2001 - due to the fact that four of the five Dhalia musicians already played with Wild Silk, this band can easily be described as the predecessor band.

Wild Silk

Originally the group consisted of four musicians: In addition to Berk Demiray and Rainer Burgmer, who still play under Dhalia's Lane , the band was completed by violinist Matthias Kohlmann (previously with Paddy Goes to Holyhead ) and singer Simone Freimüller. In this formation the band released 4 CDs. In 1999 the Egyptian drummer Bergo Ibrahim joined the group as a guest musician. After Simone Freimüller left in 2000, the other musicians performed without a female voice for a while. It was not until the end of 2000 that this position was filled with Schona Mihalys, who brought the harp to the band as a new instrument. At the end of 2001 the formation Wild Silk officially broke up. At this point it was already clear that 3 of the musicians at that time would found the successor band Dhalia .

Dhalia

Dhalia was founded in early 2002. In addition to the three Wild Silk musicians Berk Demiray, Rainer Burgmer and Bergo Ibrahim, the violinist Helen Mannert, who was already known in folk circles from the band Paddy Goes to Holyhead , joined the original Wild Silk voice Simone Freimüller . In the first year the band released a live CD. After Simone Freimüller left again in March 2003, Andrea Linzke became a new singer. After preparations for the new CD began in autumn 2004, Andrea Linzke left the band at the end of 2004 for health reasons.

Dhalia's Lane

Due to the aforementioned legal dispute, the band was forced to change their name in early 2005. In order not to lose the connection, it was decided to go to Dhalia's Lane.

The band currently consists of the permanent members Berk Demiray, Bozena Woitasky and Rainer Burgmer and regularly plays with brilliant guest musicians.

Instruments

The band has a wide range of instruments that are used or were used during a concert.
