Dhia Cristiani (born June 27, 1921 in Dovadola , † July 17, 1977 in Rome ) was an Italian actress and voice actress .

Life

Cristiani attended the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and received her diploma in 1938. Her film debut soon followed in a secondary role of Ettore Fieramosca , which was followed by similar others, so that her potential was not reached and a breakthrough as a star failed to materialize. From 1941 she received interesting offers from directors such as Ferdinando Maria Poggioli , Luigi Chiarini and Luchino Visconti . The latter in particular offered her a role in obsession , which she performed calmly and gracefully. Since there were no other major offers, Cristiani devoted herself exclusively to dubbing from the following year (the only exception was a melodrama in 1954, in which she returned to the screen), in which field she was able to establish herself as a sought-after voice. She let the great Hollywood female stars of the 1940s and 1950s speak Italian: Linda Darnell , Virginia Mayo , Dorothy McGuire , Anne Baxter , Betty Grable , Rhonda Fleming , Donna Reed, and Joan Collins . She also dubbed Italian actresses such as Gina Lollobrigida in her early days, Marina Berti , Gianna Maria Canale and many more. She was also the standard voice for foreign protagonists in Italian productions. The "s" of Emilia-Romagna was characteristic of their way of speaking .

In the years immediately following World War II, Cristiani had also acted in theater when she starred alongside Lola Pagnani , Rossano Brazzi , Valentina Cortese and Carlo Ninchi in Strange Interlude and The Unloved .

Cristiani was married to Giuseppe Ventimiglia .
