Diagonal star clock EA47605

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Diagonal star clock from the Middle Kingdom

The entries of the diagonal star clock EA47605 belong to the group A2 diagonal star clocks that were depicted on coffins of the Middle Kingdom . The dean lists A2 are several coffins of the 12th dynasty occupied and are considered forerunners of Dean lists C . David Hogarth recovered two fragments of diagonal star clocks in Asyut in 1907 . They date to the end of the first intermediate period or the beginning of the Middle Kingdom. The larger fragment is in the British Museum with the designation "Diagonal star clock EA47605" .

Diagonal star clock EA47605

particularities

The diagonal star clock EA47605 is divided into the four areas date line , upper hours , solar path and lower hours . Instead of a date, only the first month of the season Achet is given. In particular, the date line of the EA47605 diagonal star clock refutes the previously postulated paradigm of “missing date lines on all group 2 diagonal star clocks”. In addition, the dean Cheri-cheped-en-Kenmet noted under No. 3 is missing from the other comparable lists in Group 1 .
