Dick's Sporting Goods is a US retail sporting goods company. The company was founded in 1948 by Richard Stack in Binghamton , New York, as a fishing supplies store. In the early 1980s, Edward Stack and his siblings bought the business from their father and ran it. At that time the company only had one location in Binghamton and one in Vestal . Under the direction of Edward Stack, stores were opened in the cities of Syracuse , Rochester and Albanyopened. An aggressive expansion policy was pursued in the 1980s and 1990s, as a result of which stores outside the original market were opened in Upstate New York . In 1994 the company's headquarters were relocated to Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania . Later the seat was moved to Coraopolis in the metropolitan area around Pittsburgh. Today Dick's Sporting Goods has stores in almost every state in the United States.
