Dicranella heteromalla (in German sometimes also called Sicheliges Kleingabelzahnmoos or Einseitswendiges Kleingabelmoos ) is a moss that is common in Central Europe on loamy locations in forests.

description

The dioecious species forms 1 to 2 cm high, rarely also higher, dense lawns of yellow-green to pure green plants.

The leaves are not or only slightly divorced at the base. They are drawn out into a long, awl-shaped and sickle-shaped curved tip, which is completely filled by the leaf vein. As a rule, the leaves are clearly one-sided on the stem. The leaf margin is finely serrated from the tip down.

The capsules stand on a yellow seta and are upright or at most slightly inclined. You yourself are red-brown.

Distribution and location requirements

The species occurs in loamy or sandy, open and acidic locations, sometimes also on lime-free or at least lime-poor rock. In Central Europe it grows very often on loamy forest soil, for example on the edges of forest paths, on forest embankments or in ditches. It is widespread and frequent from the lowlands to over the tree line. It often forms large stocks at suitable locations.

It is common in the temperate latitudes of the entire northern hemisphere.
