Dicyphus stachydis is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).
features
The bugs are 3.3 to 4.8 millimeters long. Species of the genus Dicyphus are usually difficult to identify based on external characteristics, but the color can still be helpful. Dicyphus stachydis often has dark points at the apex of the corium and the cuneus of the hemielytras , as occurs in Dicyphus epilobii . Your first antennae , however, are mostly pale and the head has darker markings. The length of the third antennae is equal to or longer than the width of the head at the level of the compound eyes and the rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs are quite short. The adult bugs predominantly have shortened (brachyptere) hemielytras. The species is also very similar to Dicyphus pallicornis .
Occurrence and habitat
The species is distributed in Europe with the exception of the far north and the Mediterranean region and east to Eastern Siberia and the Caucasus. It is probably widespread in Germany and Austria, but it is not common there. Presumably it occurs mainly in montane locations, but more precise distribution information is difficult due to frequent incorrect determinations.
Way of life
The bugs live on forest ziest ( Stachys sylvatica ) and probably feed on zoophytophag. It has also been found in hollow teeth ( Galeopsis ), sticky sage ( Salvia glutinosa ) and lung herbs ( Pulmonaria ). The adult bugs hibernate. These are clearly darker in color than in autumn. The females lay their eggs at least from May on the basal leaves of the host plants. The adult animals of the new generation appear from July and can be observed until October.
