occupation

The Italian feature film Generazione mille euro by Massimo Venier from 2009 mixes relationship comedy with social drama. It is inspired by the novel of the same name by Alessandro Rimassa and Antonio Incorvaia . It portrays the life of a “generation” that has to get by on 1000 euros per month, consisting of Precari , young people with a good education, but in precarious employment . Because the legal protection against dismissal enforced by trade unions makes it impossible for companies in Italy to fire employees they no longer need, they are reluctant to take on permanent positions and only enter into fixed-term employment contracts.

action

Matteo is 31, holds a doctorate in mathematician and is employed by a large telecom company on a temporary basis, doing a job he hates. His girlfriend Valentina turns away from him. He shares a flat with his friend Francesco. You are faced with the problem of finding a new one after a roommate moves away, otherwise the apartment is threatened with termination. They want "no destitute people, no women, no Stronzi". Two new women enter his life.

Without Matteo having consented to a woman moving into the flat, the student Beatrice takes the vacant place. At the company he met the blonde Angelica who, as it turned out later, became his supervisor as a project manager. She takes him to a presentation in Barcelona, where they get close, but spend the night in separate rooms. As a result, Matteo is torn between Beatrice and Angelica. In addition, his professor, who thinks a lot of him, is annoyed because Matteo, who works as his assistant professor, failed to give a lecture. When Karen is reshuffled after taking over the company, Angelica rises and offers Matteo an attractive job with her in Barcelona, Matteo has to choose between her and Beatrice. He chooses Beatrice and remains a Precario .

criticism

“A likeable romantic comedy full of clever, ironic dialogues and refreshing actors who breathe life and personality into the characters typical of the genre. Of course, there is not much left of the (socially) critical tone of the literary model than the Milanese precariat. "
