The 4 Graces is a group of four visual artists in Vienna . You work conceptually with painting , performance , photography and video .
Petra Gell, Mela Kaltenegger, Susanna Schwarz and Maria Wetter got to know each other as students of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna , where they have already been named 4 Graces . They completed their studies with Gunter Damisch with a master’s degree. In 2002 they joined together as an artist collective and moved into a joint studio in Vienna's new building .
The name of the group reminds them of the “photography performance gang” Die Damen , who in the 1980s showed existing sexisms with self-portrayals, according to Nina Schedlmayer in 2009 in Art Magazine . In contrast to this, the 4 Graces with their exhibition Salon Gier seemed to "largely withdraw into the not exactly new inwardness - mood: cheerful to cloudy". In 2014, the artist collective took part in the major exhibition Idol. Prehistoric and contemporary images of women in the Künstlerhaus Wien , which was also shown in Munich in 2015, took part in a video work in which The 4 Graces dance around a bull-headed Zeus "on a roof as a girl group (ies). In the Wiener Zeitung , Peter Zawrel described Die 4 Grazien 2016 as a girl group whose videos are "entertaining dismantling of male transfigurations".
