action

Skip Robinson relocates from Los Angeles to the remote wilderness with his wife Pat and their two children Jenny and Toby . The family sells all their belongings in order to build a new home in the woods far away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. At the edge of a lake they are building a large log house next to their uncle Jake's old wooden hut. While walking near a rocky slope, a rock fall loosens and buries a she-bear, who was there with her cubs looking for food, under her. Skip and his son can save themselves just in time. They take the baby animals home, where a raccoon already lives with them, and raise them.

When the children are on an outing alone, they find two puma cubs on a hill. Believing that the two have no mother, they take the animals home with them. But trouble awaits her there. The father forbids them to continue taking animals home and brings the baby animals back. The cougar mother attacks him and he is injured. A little later they meet the trapper Boomer, who can tell many stories about the area, the animals and their deceased uncle Jake. While picking berries, Jenny is startled by a bear and she runs away in a panic. Her mother finally tries to catch the bear by a river, while Jenny hides there in a kind of cave. With a large branch, Pat can finally draw the bear on him, and the dog Kress drives the bear away.

Some time later, Jenny fell ill with a virus infection. The father wants to get help over a radio, but what he doesn't know is that the device is no longer working. The raccoons had thrown it down and Toby thought he had it fixed. Skip makes his way down the river for help. Meanwhile, his wife and children are left alone in the log cabin. Suddenly, after an approaching storm, the bear that has attacked Jenny approaches. He tampered with the house and smashed the window and door. The family friend, the bear Samson, comes to the aid of the Robinsons. In the middle of the fight, Pat presses the trigger of the rifle and shoots. The bullet misses Samson by a hair's breadth and kills the other bear fatally. Meanwhile, Skip has managed to find a doctor and comes back to the house with a seaplane. When he finds this pretty battered, he has bad thoughts.

"Exciting, occasionally sentimental family entertainment with beautiful nature shots."
