action

The Zambrowski family moves from Berlin to the Oder-Spree district . Immediately after arriving at the house, which once belonged to the late father of Vitus Zambrowski, the father of Simon and Mark, and has been restarted by him for some time, the policeman and kindergarten friend Vitus' Raik turns up with his colleague Alexandra Tornow, to greet them. They also draw attention to “Stutter-Peter”, who has a previous conviction for pedophilia , which initially gets the family into a turmoil. As Simon and Mark explore the area, they meet Stutter-Peter, who lures them into his tree house and tells them about the Storkow soul mirror, through which the dog Gismo has looked and has been immortal ever since. He shows them pictures of Gismo after a truck drove over him, but he is currently lying below the tree house. When Simon and Mark explore the area again the next day, Simon secretly wants to meet with the neighborhood girl Sandy. The meeting goes awry and Simon is beaten up by Juri, someone from Sandy's clique. Seriously injured, Simon finally arrives back home, where his parents pester him with questions, including where his brother Mark is. Mark arrives at the house for a short time, also seriously injured, but like Simon, he says he fell. Since his father and Raik suspect Stotter-Peter is behind the injuries, they go to him and beat him up.

A few days later, Sandy suddenly appears at Simon's door. They go to the lakeshore and Sandy wants to show Simon how long she can stay underwater, but she passes out. Simon's father shows up and starts resuscitation. Meanwhile, Simon sees spider-like creatures emerge from Sandy and pass into his father. In the next few days, the father's behavior changed increasingly. He is emotionless and gives unnatural screams at night. One day he would like to go to an uninhabited island in the Great Storkower See with his two sons . He leads them to a building on the island that resembles a school inside. He tells them they are going to learn what you don't learn in a normal school, which is killing. First he gives them the task of looking for a victim and gives them four hours to do it. The brothers are confused and want to leave the island, but the father has hidden the paddles of the boat. Finally they turn up with a little cat at the father's. The next time he gives them lessons in survival in nature and lets them stay locked up. Finally, he gives them the second task. He kidnapped Sandy and removed her left thumb. If they find her, maybe they can sew her thumb back on. The two find Sandy in a hole, tied to a leghold trap , and try in vain to free her by rappelling Mark Simon with the rope that her father gave them with a saw. Shortly afterwards, Mark disappears and his father appears and says that the leghold cannot be cut with the saw. He should cut off her foot or let the match he is holding fall on his diesel-overrun brother. Simon kicks his father in the genital area, catches the match and throws it at his father, whereupon he burns. Simon, Mark and Sandy flee to the mainland by boat and go to a restaurant, the owner of which informs the emergency services. In addition to the ambulance service, Raik also arrives. He takes the brothers with him and drives them home. He doesn't believe them. When he meets the father of the two, he hands them over to him and disappears again. The father drives the battered mother to the island to show her, while Simon and Mark are on the phone with Stutter-Peter, who was pushed off a bridge by Vitus and is now paralyzed from the hip and is currently in the hospital with Sandy. He tells them that Sandy had looked into the Storkower soul mirror and that evil had now come from her to her father when she was resuscitated. This can only be killed by someone who has also looked in the mirror. Mark immediately runs off and looks into the splinter that Peter deposited a long time ago in the Zambrowski's house and sets off to the island where his father is to kill him. When Simon arrives later, he is watching his father kill his brother. Simon tries to revive him, but fails. His father continues class and wants him to shoot his mother in the artery in his leg to make her bleed to death. Simon takes the gun and shoots his father twice, whereupon he dies.

background

Shortly after the publication of The Blood School , The Joshua Profile was also published, which is about the writer Max Rhode and his only successful novel The Blood School . Since Sebastian Fitzek published The Blood School under the pseudonym Max Rhode, it was not clear from the start that the novel was his. Among other things, he dressed up with a full beard and tattoos and presented his books as Max Rhode at the Frankfurt Book Fair .

When The Joshua Profile appeared a short time later , it finally became clear that the protagonist of the novel is Max Rhode and The Blood School provides the background story. In the film adaptation of Das Joshua-Profil , Sebastian Fitzek plays a bookseller who is present at a lecture by Max Rhode.

The blood school came about while working on The Joshua Profile . Fitzek wanted to better empathize with Max Rhode's psyche and therefore wrote his novel in order to better “know” the writer's childhood, which he indirectly describes in Die Blutschule . He tried a different way of writing than in his other books, which he enjoyed so much that he finished the novel.

After its publication in October 2015, Die Blutschule was on the Spiegel's bestseller list in the paperback fiction category for 19 weeks , where it reached second place in 46/2015 and 2/2016.
