The Abduction of Agata is a Polish feature film from 1993.

action

The film is set in Poland in the early 1990s and is a satirical appraisal of an authentic case. Agata is the 16-year-old daughter of an important Polish politician who falls in love at first sight with Cygan Guglhör, who has just escaped from prison. They confront Agata's parents with the desire to marry immediately, which the parents are not exactly enthusiastic about.

During Agata's birthday party in a discotheque, the lovers flee, which Agata's father turns into a kidnapping case. With all his political power and the support of a minister friend, the father tries to get the girl back to the family through the media and with the police. First, the father tries to place Agata in the psychiatric ward.

This attempt fails. The family tries to lock Agata up at home. But Cygan also frees his young friend from this prison. The wedding is scheduled for 12 noon on the same day, but the police are on the couple and ultimately shoot Cygan.

background

The film throws a satirical picture of Poland in the post-reunification period with bitter and funny side stories. While escaping from prison, Cygan takes a police motorcycle and uniform and uses mandates to obtain the money he needs for his escape. Many supporting roles are occupied by popular actors. Cezary Pazura , for example, plays the policeman who was robbed of his uniform and motorcycle.

Simple situations like asking for a way in a small town end in confusion, since after the fall of the Wall many streets were renamed from originally communist to now Catholic names. Police are protesting against unsustainable conditions in the country with a hunger strike . Obese moderator and cabaret artist Wojciech Mann plays one of the hunger strikers . In essence, the film describes the emerging political leadership class that strives for its own benefit rather than the welfare of society.
