The Gazette

The Gazette is a socio-political culture magazine from Munich . It has been online since 1998, in print since 2004, and was founded by Fritz R. Glunk .

The magazine has been published by Kastner AG in Wolnzach since 2014 . The publisher and editor-in-chief is Hans Christian Meiser . The magazine exists in two forms: the "Classic Edition" and the "Collector's Edition" (with a hand-signed and numbered work of art, limited to 999 copies).

Self-image

The Gazette sees itself as an “intelligence paper between time and mirror ”. She sees “well-trained people, decision-makers, opinion leaders and multipliers” as the target group. Her topic is the connection “between cultural production and socio-political practice”. She demands "social relevance, thematic depth, clear position and stylistic quality" for her texts. Her authors include Carl Amery , Giscard d'Estaing , Rita Süssmuth , Uri Avnery , Christian Ude , Seyran Ates , Julian Nida-Rümelin , Werner Weidenfeld , Daniela Otto and Barbara Strohschein .

In the press judgment

The Frankfurter Rundschau ruled: "The magazine focuses on the desire to read and provides independent and critical information from culture and politics." According to Münchner Merkur , Die Gazette renounces "intellectual fashions" and wants to "discuss contemporary intellectual trends". The media magazine brand eins smugly assessed that it was a magazine in which the “market researcher sighs and empties a bottle of whiskey in one go: [...] No fancy layout, no shouting, no stars, no suggestions for a world improvement, no steep theses, no long-distance travel reports. Mostly black and white. "

In the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Heribert Prantl emphasized that the Gazette “does not have a strong presence, but has strong content”. The magazine is therefore calm, but the "share of excitingly good pieces" is high. You can find essays, short stories, poetry and "lost and found" items. The paper does not have a clear political line; "You can call it 'enlightening'".
