Die Goldmacher - Sport in der DDR is a German documentary film from 2008. The film is a co-production by Provobis with ZDF and mdr . It was premiered at DOK Leipzig on October 28, 2008. It had its TV premiere on September 30, 2009 on ARTE . The film was broadcast on mdr television in February 2011 as a two-part series of 44 minutes each.

“Die Goldmacher - Sport in der GDR” offers a documentary review of 40 years of sport in the GDR and paints a picture of its history and its importance for the development of the state and nation. Knechtel and his team interviewed Olympic champions, officials, doctors and trainers - Hans-Georg Aschenbach , Wolfgang Behrendt , Wolfgang Böhme , Siegbert Horn , Gustav-Adolf Schur , Jens Weißflog and Erika Zuchold as well as the former SED politician Hans Modrow . With them, the director pursues the recipe for success for around 4,000 victories and gold medals from GDR athletes at the Olympic Games, World and European Championships, without reducing GDR sport to doping and the Stasi.

Peter Buchholz speaks the commentary of the film.
