Siegbert Horn

Siegbert Horn (born May 11, 1950 in Hartmannsdorf near Schönewalde ; † August 9, 2016 ) was a German canoeist, Olympic champion and world champion in canoe slalom , who competed for the GDR .

Horn was GDR youth champion in 1967 and 1968. In 1969 and 1971 he won the championship in single kayak in the adult class. In 1971 Horn won the individual competition at the World Championships in Merano , with the team he took second place. At the 1972 Olympic Games , Olympic canoe slalom competitions were held for the first time. On the Augsburg ice channel , Horn won just ahead of the Austrian Norbert Sattler . In 1973 Horn finished second behind Sattler at the World Championships in Muotatal , but won the team competition together with Christian Döring and Wolfgang Büchner . In 1975 in Skopje , Horn was once again individual world champion and took third place with the team.

The trained lathe operator started for the ASK Vorwärts Leipzig , he studied during his career and later worked as a qualified sports teacher at the University of Leipzig. Most recently, Siegbert Horn was a self-employed physiotherapist in Elsterwerda .

Horn succumbed to cancer on August 9, 2016.
