Oliver Fix

Oliver Fix (born June 21, 1973 in Augsburg ) is a former German canoeist . He became Olympic champion in canoe slalom in 1996 .

Fix started for Kanu Schwaben Augsburg , the canoeing department of TSV Schwaben Augsburg , and trained on the Augsburg ice canal . In 1990 he won with the team at the Junior World Championships, in the individual the kayaker took fifth place. After taking third place at the German championships in 1991 and 1994 and becoming German team champion in 1993, Fix made his breakthrough to the top in 1995. At the World Championships in Nottingham he won the individual competition and together with Thomas Becker and Jochen Lettmann he also won the team competition.

At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , Fix was the reigning world champion and won the competition in the Ocoee Whitewater Center in front of the Slovenians Andraž Vehovar and Thomas Becker and received the gold medal. In 1998 Oliver Fix married the canoeist Gilda Montenegro , who took part in the Olympic Games twice for Costa Rica .
